Willy Duron: Chairman, Independent Director
Willy Duron has been an independent board member of TiGenix NV since February 2007. He is also member of the board of directors of Ravago NV, Vanbreda Risk & Benefits NV, Universitaire Ziekenhuizen Leuven, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Universitair Centrum St Jozef Kortenberg and W&K, Agfa-Gevaert NV, Van Lanschot Bankiers NV and Amonis. Mr. Duron has been CEO of KBC Groep NV, KBC Bankverzekeringsholding NV and KBC Asset Management NV, Synes NV, Argosz, CSOB, Warta, FBD, Secura and ADD. He started his career at ABB Verzekeringen in 1970, becoming a member of the executive committee in 1984. Willy Duron holds a MSc degree in mathematics from the University of Gent and a MSc degree in actuarial sciences from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

Koenraad Debackere: Director (non-executive)
Prof. Dr. Koenraad Debackere is Professor of technology and innovation management at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven and visiting Professor at various European business schools. He is Managing Director of K.U.Leuven Research & Development and Chairman of the Gemma Frisius-Fonds K.U.Leuven NV, the Venture Fund of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. In February 2005, Prof. Dr. Debackere became General Manager of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Gil Beyen: permanent representative of Gil Beyen BVBA, CEO (executive)
Gil Beyen is the founder and CEO of TiGenix. He is a manager of Axxis V&C BVBA, as well as member of the board of Ecloosion SA and FlandersBio VZW and commissioner for the Flemish government on the board of the Flemish Institute of Biotechnology (VIB). Mr. Beyen gained an MSc in bioengineering from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) in 1984 and obtained an MBA from the University of Chicago (U.S.) in 1990. Before founding TiGenix, he worked as a management consultant at Arthur D. Little (ADL) in Brussels, where he was responsible for their healthcare and biotechnology practice. In this function, he has assisted a broad range of companies in the biomedical and biotech industries through different stages of their growth.


Frank P. Luyten: Director (non-executive)
Frank P. Luyten, MD, PhD is board certified Rheumatologist, tenured full Professor and Head of the Division of Rheumatology at the University Hospitals Leuven; Director of the Laboratory for Skeletal Development and Joint Disorders and of Prometheus, the Tissue Engineering Division at the KULeuven; also Chairman of the Department of Musculoskeletal Sciences at the KULeuven, Belgium. He obtained his MD, PhD degree and Board Certification in Rheumatology at the University of Ghent, Belgium. He spent his postdoctoral training at the National Institute of Dental Research, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD, USA. He became subsequently group leader of the Developmental Biology Unit at the Bone Research Branch, NIDR, NIH, Bethesda, USA. Among his scientific achievements: two important contributions are the discovery of Osteogenin and Cartilage Derived Morphogenetic Proteins, members of the family of Bone Morphogenetic Proteins and Growth and Differentiation Factors; furthermore the discovery of Frizbee (FRZB), an antagonist of Wnt signaling. He continues to contribute to the understanding of the role of both BMP and Wnt pathways in the formation of skeletal tissues, joint morphogenesis and postnatal joint biology. More recently, his group has provided strong evidence for the involvement of these same pathways in human arthritic diseases. His expertise in regenerative medicine is further supported by contributions in the field of cellular therapeutics, cartilage/joint surface repair and the discovery of adult stem cells in synovial tissue. He serves as advisor and board member of other biotech companies in the field of Regenerative Medicine.

Sven Andréasson: permanent representative of Galenos SPRL, Independent Director
Sven Andréasson is the CEO of Beta-Cell NV in Brussels. He has longstanding experience in the international biotech and pharmaceuticals industry, including time spent as President and CEO for Active Biotech AB (publ.) 1999 – 2008 and as President and Vice President of mainly Swedish, Belgian, French and German companies within the Pharmacia Corporation 1976 - 1999. Sven Andréasson has an MSc in business administration and finance from the Stockholm School of Economics. He is chairman of ERYtech SA (Lyon), Unibioscreen SA (Brussels) and Operations Leadership Oil AB (Stockholm). During the last five years he has resigned from the board of SwedenBIO AB.

Luc Van de Steen: permanent representative of ING België NV, Director (non-executive)

Luc Van de Steen is Investment Director at ING Corporate Investments. He holds a commercial engineering degree from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Prior to joining ING in 2001, he spent over 15 years within the KBC Group in lending, corporate finance and private equity. He is Chairman of the board of Bruyninx Group and Greetham NV, and he has served on the board of Corelio, Vitalo Industries and Altice One SA, either in his personal capacity or as the permanent representative of ING België NV.
